Valentine’s Day Kiss Countdown: Kiss #10

Valentine's Day Kiss Countdown #10

Since Valentine’s Day is coming up soon, I thought I would try a little something special to celebrate!

Believe it or not, one of the more difficult things to sketch or illustrate realistically are a couple in the midst of a kiss. (At least it’s difficult for me to accomplish!) While I was thinking about this one recent day, it gave me an idea for a personal challenge, which would help me get some practice on this task. But it would also be a nice way to acknowledge the approach of Valentine’s Day!

So, for the next ten days I’ll attempt to do a sort of countdown of kisses! Each day I’ll post a sketch or possibly (if time permits) skillo, of couples engaged in different types of smooches. ;) On the last day, I’ll post a full-color illo of a very familiar couple *wink wink* exchanging the final kiss of the countdown on Valentine’s Day!

To begin, we have Kiss #10! Looks as though these two are already well on their way to some fun and  rather hasty disrobing, but found a moment to pause for a passionate kiss! ;)

I really hope you enjoy this first sketch and the rest of the countdown!

I will most certainly enjoy them all. Is this pencil, charcoal? Love the lines, etc. It’s on my bucket list to watch you work some day, Victoria.

Hi Nancy! Thank you :) I truly do hope you end up enjoying them all!

Actually the illos are all digital. I use a custom brush that emulates a pencil and then use another custom brush that emulates a paint brush. Oh, you’d never want to watch me work. I go far too slow. I’m sure you’d get bored! ;)

Victoria, I don’t know if I’m just extra emotional but I have to say this is the most beautiful illustration I have ever seen. I can’t explain why it’s brought a tear to my eye, I think it’s their faces, their closed eyes & how their heads are positioned. It’s just beautiful to me.

I love how she is holding on to his shirt and I love his jaw line and shoulder. I’ve always loved the colours you choose but you know what? I love that this illo doesn’t have colour, so simple and elegant. You’ve knocked me over with a feather!

Gosh Nellie! I don’t know what to say! I am just so floored by your lovely comments. Wow…that has to be the highest praise you can receive on a piece, when it moves someone emotionally like it did you. I can’t thank you enough! I am so glad you enjoyed the sketch so much :)
