Just Scratching the Surfaces

Just Scratching the Surfaces
Once Ana Steele met Christian Grey, it is safe to say that their days never lacked excitement or challenges. Some naturally occurring, and some due to their rather competitive natures at times.

On one particularly event-filled day in Fifty Shades Darker, that competitive nature eventually leads Christian to proclaim a unique goal regarding how he’d spend his time with Ana at (and on) his penthouse at Escala. ;) I thought I would try to capture the moment when the two of them began their quest to achieve Christian’s newly created goal.

It really wasn’t necessary for Christian to proclaim that he would “take Ana on every available surface” of his penthouse at Escala. Knowing his appetite for her, and his creativity, the two of them would eventually ‘experience’ every available surface anyway…maybe even more than once!

But after the kind of day they had both gone through, and the interesting power struggle that ensued earlier while having dinner at The Mile High Club on the seventy-sixth floor of Columbia Tower, all that pent up anticipation got the best of him. Much like one’s eyes being too big for one’s stomach when extremely hungry, Christian proclaimed that he and Ana would go about accomplishing a grand feat that would be virtually impossible to do in one night, or even an entire week…or month…or perhaps even a year! (depending on really how vast the penthouse is, and how technical he is about *every* surface!)

Once again, Ana managed to somewhat turn the tables on Christian regarding the power plays and seductive game playing. Which in this case, contributed to the new and lofty goal creation upon their return to the penthouse! Far from being a pushover, Ana never gives up easily or declares defeat in any situation. So, once she realized what Christian was playing at when they arrived at restaurant, she set out to challenge him at his own game! This was something that Christian most definitely never encountered in his past ‘relationships’ but was probably one of several things that contributed to his strong attraction to Ana. It provided a new sort of excitement for him, and like Ana, he is always up for a challenge!

But no matter what the situation, both Christian and Ana always end up quite satisfied and all issues of power struggles are long forgotten. ;)

Oh my and brilliant as usual…my first take on it. ;)

Christian and his Appetite lol. The colors are flawless and love the painting in the background as well. Bravo Vic :)

Hi Christine! hahaha He does have quite the appetite, doesn’t he? ;) I’m so glad you liked the colors! It was tough since it’s a white room and Christian is wearing a white t-shirt! Was afraid of making the room look too dingy or his shirt look more grey than white! :O Thanks for noticing the painting! I did a quick copy of part of a Madonna and Child painting I found. That was a lot of fun to do! Thanks so much for stopping by, checking out the new illo and saying hello! :D

OMG! Beautiful and perfect as always, Victoria.
I’m so excited about the movie, and you? Did you like the cast?

    • admin

Hi Bia! I’m glad you liked the illo! Thanks so much for the kind words! :)

Yes! I am really looking forward to seeing the movie! I’m curious as to how they will interpret the book. I had no expectations or preference for the cast, so I’m just really looking forward to see how they portray the characters. It’ll be fun to see the story unfold up on a movie screen!

      • Bia

Yes, yes … me too. But I confess that I loved Jamie for the role of Christian. He is gorgeous and has a look … my God! hahahaha XD

        • admin

Hi Bia! Then you are *really* going to enjoy the movie when it’s finally released, aren’t you?! ;D What makes me think that you will probably end up seeing it more than once? hahaha ;)

Oh my gosh Victoria, you never stop amazing me!!!!!! When I saw you updated, I literally stopped everything and went on my home laptop just to look at the picture closer ;) I think I have said this before, but I love how you capture a very sexual/sensual moment and make it look beautiful ;) Also; I love your eye for detail, especially the Madonna painting in the far background. Plus I love the angle of it. LOL its hard to explain, but the way you have them in the illo is very pleasing to the eye. Sorry I hope I am making sense LOL! I am just soooooooooooo happy that you finally updated!!!!! Can’t wait for more and more lol! By the way, I love the title ;)

    • admin

Wow Haliey! I don’t know where to begin! Thank you so much for all of your extremely kind words. :D Oh, but don’t zoom in too closely on your laptop, or you’ll see where some of my painting can be a bit sloppy! ;) Ah! You noticed and remembered it was a Madonna painting in the foyer! (well, one of several according to the book!) I wanted just enough to peek out without it dominating the wall. It really makes me happy to hear that you enjoyed composition and angles I used. That’s always very tricky. You are totally making sense, and I love that it sounds like you’ve really studied the illo! Can’t tell you how much I appreciate that! :D I realize that it had been longer than usual since my last piece, but thanks for being patient. Hahaha! I promise to share more! Hee! Glad you liked the title too. I always try to do a play on words somehow ;)

Thanks again for all of your lovely comments!

Wow!! Another incredible illustration, Victoria! You’re amazing and so talented! Personally I’m not a fan of the cast for this film as they just do not match the descriptions of the characters in the books so I REALLY look forward to your drawings because you pay so much attention to detail and you are what brings the books to life for me through your illos! Thank you and I can’t wait to see what else you have in store! :)

    • admin

Hi Annie! Really glad you enjoyed the illo! Thanks so much! I’m sorry to hear that you’re not a fan of the movie’s cast, but I do hope you’ll still give it a chance and see it when it comes to theaters. :) Gosh, I’m very flattered by your kind words! I’m happy that my illos enhance your enjoyment of the books! That is quite the compliment! :) I thank you for continuing to visit and check out my work and for stopping by and leaving such sweet comments! More coming soon! :D

Beautiful illustration, Victoria, love the attention to detail with everything – especailly the table & artwork in the background. The way you describe the scene is perfect, takes me back to what happened. Yes, I agree, I think Ana being assertive is one of the things Christian loves about her as it’s new & different from what he’s been used to. He has a cute butt too by the way! Just saying.

    Nellie :)

Hi Nellie! I’m so happy that you enjoyed the illo and that you also enjoyed the little details too! :) I had a lot of fun painting both the table and the Madonna painting! Oh, thanks so much for reading my ramblings as well! Glad you enjoyed it! Hahahaha! It’s no crotch, but glad you enjoyed Christian’s backside too ;D Nellie, you are so silly… (but I love that about you!) Thanks again! :D

  7. Tiffany

    HI Victoria,
Another awesome illo. I have to agree with everyone, your attention to detail is impeccable. Also, your description is spot on:) Thank you. Your illos are exactly how I imagine the images you create from the book. Another job well done! Thank you for taking the time out to do this. Can’t wait for more :)

    • admin

Hi Tiffany! I’m happy to hear that you enjoyed the illo as well as my ramblings too! ;) It really feels great when the little details are noticed. Unless someone has read the books, I don’t think they’d have much importance. I’m glad the illo also matched how you imagined the moment from the book! That is extremely flattering to hear :D As always, it is a pleasure to share my illos and I thank you so much for all of your very kind words! :) More coming soon!

  8. Vicky w

Thanks again for the “draw and discuss”. I luv luv luv how every time I get a notice of a new ilo, my heart rate increases and my breathing becomes erratic as I race to see what you created. Could it be addiction???

    Can’t seem to get enough.

    • admin

Hi Vicky! Haha! I like that, “draw and discuss.” heehee! ;) Wow! My illos really have that sort of effect on you?! You are just too sweet! Can’t tell you how flattering that is to hear! (but gosh, I don’t want to be the cause of any stress to your poor heart!) ;) I will try my best to have something new very soon! :) Thank you!

  9. Kathleen

Thank you for the pictures! The truth is that your Christian and Ana are by far much closer to the books description than the chosen actors that will interpret them in the movie and I think that’s the reason I stick with the books, my imagination and your lovely scetches! Waiting for the next one!

    • admin

Hi Kathleen! It’s a pleasure to share my illos! I’m sorry to hear that you aren’t very satisfied by the movie’s cast, but maybe their performances will be a pleasant surprise and it’ll just be a different interpretation of the books that you’ll enjoy in its own right! :) But enjoying the books with the images created by your own imagination is a lot of fun too ;) I’m very flattered that you’re enjoying my illos and more will be coming soon! Thank you! :)

  10. Charlene

I am truly amazed by your work. E.L. should republish the books and add your illustrations. The help tell the story so well & BTW your making me even more excited for the movie because you’ve depicted all my favorite screens so far. I know some won’t come later till the 2nd, 3rd books but still getting excited. Can’t wait for your next post. :-)

    • admin

Hi Charlene! Gosh, you are very sweet! :D Wow, I’m glad that my illos are actually making you feel more excited for the movie! That makes me very happy to hear! I really appreciate you checking out my work :) Thank you so much, and more to come very soon!

    Hello Victoria!!
You are getting riske’ with these illistrations…and I love it!! Fifty Shades Darker was my favorite book. Perhaps it was more of the adventure Christian and Ana were having!!! LOL :)
I’m also enjoying the “Valentine Kiss Countdown”. These scetches are soo good & intimate.
Cannot wait for the color version finale!! :)
    Take care for now,

    • admin

Hi Christine! hahaha Well actually this one isn’t really that racy, is it? They’re fully clothed at least ;) But glad you liked it! Oh yes, Darker has lots of action and so many great scenes!

Oh! Thanks for checking out the countdown as well! I really appreciate it! So happy you’re enjoying it! :D
