“Oh, f*ck the paperwork…”

Christian and Ana in the elevator

Like practically everyone else on the planet, yes, I have read the The Fifty Shades of Grey Trilogy by E L James. A few months ago I decided to read the book and when I had gotten through some of it, I told my friend about what I was reading. She was interested and began to read it as well. When I was almost finished with the first book, I realized that it would be fun to do illustrations of different scenes that were described! I’m always trying to think of what to draw and the descriptions of clothing and environments were so well done, that I mentioned it to my friend. She thought it’d be a great idea and I asked her to make mental notes of scenes that would be good to recreate. Sometimes we seem to share the same brain, so it was no surprise that when we compared notes, our lists were practically the same!

I read all three books first, then actually went back later and re-read the first book to make sure I had the exact descriptions of the scenes. Thank goodness for my Kindle Touch! I love the fact that you can highlight passages and write notes to yourself! Very handy!

So, for the first illustration I decided on the elevator scene at the Heathman hotel where Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele share their first kiss. I really hope that E L James doesn’t mind me putting down my ideas of what scenes from the book look like in my head. It’s kind of like books made into movies–everyone has their own mental pictures when they read a book, and when you see another interpretation, chances are it will not match yours and you go away disappointed at times. But these are just too much fun to do and thought I would share!

Oh, by the way, one day while chatting online with my friend, she told me she had actually attempted her own illustration. I asked if she could show it to me, but she had thrown it away! Luckily she was able to fish it out of the trash and snapped a picture of it for me. I asked her if it was okay to post it here and she said it was fine, so…here it is!

Christian and Ana stick figures

Hmmm…hope the internet police don’t shut my site down for indecent and pornographic content! 😉 She is a master of stick figure artwork. You can just hear Christian shouting, “Oh, Ana!” can’t you? *snicker*

Anyway, hope you enjoy the illustration! I look forward to attempting more. (there’s that word again!) Fifty Shades Freed had some especially great scenes in it that I am dying to capture in illustrations and sketches!

What is it about elevators…?  😉
