Snack Attack

Snack Attack illo
When I decided to create my previous piece I have to admit that it completely slipped my mind that Christian’s birthday was coming near. That particular scene unfolded just around midnight as it became June 18, so Ana decided it was the perfect time to suggest that he open her very special gift to him.

After I had shared the new piece with everyone, I received a very lovely tweet via Twitter from @NellaDan. She thought I was clever enough to have specifically planned on timing my new post with Christian’s birthday. Unfortunately, I am not quite that clever. πŸ˜‰ Since the big day was still a couple of weeks away, she asked if I was going to create another illo. I hadn’t really planned on it, but after thinking about it a bit and through the urging of others, I decided it might be fun to come up with something new in honor of the birthday boy!

While this moment wasn’t actually described in Fifty Shades Darker, I thought it would be fun to show the playful Fifty sneaking a taste of the frosting while Ana was hard at work in the kitchen. It would be easy to imagine Christian being quite distracted by the delicious and tempting aroma of the cake baking. No longer able to resist it, he would finally decide to leave the confines of his study, silently and stealthily sneaking into the kitchen, and catching Ana by surprise while she is in deep concentration finishing up his birthday cake.

The allure of the cake would probably not be the only reason why Christian would decide to steal himself away from his work. Sure, he would be eager to sneak an early taste of the frosting Ana was hard at work creating for him. But, there was also the allure of Ana’s too-short sundress she decided to wear that day. Even though he wasn’t very happy that Ana had worn the dress while running to the store, I’m sure enjoying a peek of her in said dress would be more than enough to tear him away from working and enjoy a short break! πŸ˜‰

Here’s wishing Christian a very happy birthday! πŸ˜€

Great work lady, as always. I told before and I tell you know, their faces are the best part in every drawing. Their expressions are really lovely. I hope to see you soon with another picture

Yes, even I forgot it was his birthday until I was notified by others on the Fifty Shades of Grey…continued” blog. You have excelled as usual. Nothing really more to say other than you are brilliant and you continue to capture every scene (moment) exactly as it should be in illustration and word. LOVE IT!

  3. Maybe it’s the baker in me, but I love that she was making him a homemade cake.

Hi Crissy! Oh me too! Homemade gifts are more special. Plus, I doubt Christian actually had many homemade birthday cakes up until that day, so it would be extra special for him! πŸ™‚

I want to reiterate what one of your admirers above said, about how you get their hair and face so PERFECT every time. I know I made a comment on the last picture about this. But you NEVER seem to miss one detail about the pictures. You are flawless. I hope someday I get to meet you. πŸ™‚

  15. Nellie

I can’t believe I missed this, was I hiding under a rock???? @NellaDan here. See, you do take requests πŸ˜‰ so glad I could talk you into it, LOL.

After listening to the One Year Laters radio show I got nostalgic and went to check out your illos again, what a nice surprise to see this one. Love the colour of Ana’s dress and Christian’s arm around her, oh I just love them more and more. Thank you for doing this, even if it was nearly a month ago. You capture each scene beautifully and as I’ve said before I just love your descriptions as well.

The chocolate cake I made was yummy, but I didn’t have as much baking it as Ana did! It was interesting to hear your interview and how you go about doing your illustrations. Looking forward to your next one.

Hi Nellie! Hahaha! I was waiting for you to notice over on Twitter! ;D What can I say…I caved to a bit of peer pressure… πŸ™‚ But I admit it was the perfect time for another illo. I was just too premature with the other piece before this! Me and my bad timing!

Oh, thank you for revisiting the illos again! I’m glad you enjoyed this piece as well. You are always very sweet and I appreciate your comments very much πŸ™‚

I’m glad your chocolate cake turned out yummy! It looked delish! To be honest, I don’t think many get to have the kind of fun Ana has when they make cakes… hahaha!

Thank you for listening to the show! Hope I made sense! Yikes, I really need to get going on the new piece. I’ve started one, but there have been distractions lately… πŸ˜‰
