Final Touches

Final Touches
After all of the intensity at the conclusion of book one of the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy, it was pleasant to have some playfulness occur relatively early on in the second book. Happily back together again following their reconciliation, in Fifty Shades Darker Christian casually asks Ana if she will accompany him to a summer party his father is hosting. Soon Ana would learn that it was more than just a summer party, but a rather lavish charity masquerade ball. While there is never a dull moment in the scenes involving the annual charity function, I decided to focus on a scene leading up to their attendance at the party.

Since the event was a rather formal affair, Ana had to dip into the closet of extravagant clothing that Christian had purchased especially for her. After she had chosen a gown and began to get dressed, Christian enters her room unannounced. He’s in a rather playful mood, and suggests Ana add a certain accessory to her outfit. πŸ˜‰ I thought I would attempt to capture one brief moment from that scene as Christian helped Ana get ready and dressed in his own special way–by adding some final touches to her outfit–both figuratively and literally!

When Christian came up with the idea of incorporating the ben wa balls into Ana’s masquerade ensemble, he thought it would be a fun and exciting way to drive her to distraction. Making sure to suggest it as a challenging game, guaranteed that Ana would not back down from participating. He probably assumed he could just sit back, watch her squirm, then ‘reward’ her later on after he felt she had suffered enough.

But, little did he know that he would also end up driven to distraction and frustration! While he normally adores his younger sister, Mia, her insistence on accompanying Ana everywhere didn’t allow Christian and Ana to be alone at the party–even when Ana needed to use the powder room!

It turned out to be a rather humorous scene to see how the tables were turned on Christian as time after time his attempts to be alone with Ana were thwarted by his beloved little sister. Instead, both he and Ana both ended up thoroughly frustrated! But, as we soon found out, the pair eventually manage to sneak away from the festivities and have a little private party of their own! πŸ˜‰

Love this graphic! Great Job! The Masquerade Ball is a favorite scene indeed

I’m glad you liked it Alli, thanks! Yes, the events that took place during before, during and after the masquerade ball were all great, weren’t they? πŸ˜‰

  2. I love this scene! πŸ˜‰

Every month I look forward to your new pieces. It keeps the book alive for me. With all the worry about casting the movie, maybe they should have you animate it and then they won’t have to worry about actors and filming the scene we all want to see!

Thanks so much for your lovely comments, Laura. I really appreciate it! There sure are a lot of rumors swirling around about casting the movie, but I wonder how crazy it will become once actual actors are finally announced! Ooo, an animated version of Fifty Shades…I would *love* that! I loved the animated Final Fantasy movie from a few years back…can you imagine Fifty done in that style?! *faints* πŸ˜‰

well, isn’t this just the best! Very humorous. I check nearly every day and then see that my FB page has presented itself with another of your AMAZING illustrations. You never disappoint (which is also one of Christian’s favorite things to say to Ana). Cheers to you on yet another accomplishment! I don’t know where you find the time, but you certainly MADE MY DAY AND WEEK!

    • admin

I finally have something new for you Nancy! ;D I’m happy to hear you enjoyed it too! Thank you! I wish I had more hours in the day so I could complete these more often… But I’m glad it made your day and your week! Wow! Now that’s extremely flattering to hear! Thank you!!! πŸ˜€

    Victoria,
Thanks again for your artistic representation of the kinky F***kery. This is a great scene and I love thinking how it will play out in the eventual movie. You even captured the Christian Louboutin grey dove suede stilettos that I think add so much to the erotic nature of the outfit Ana is wearing.

Happy times. Looking forward to the next installment.

Hi Vicky! It’s my pleasure to share the illustrations, but I’m very pleased that you enjoyed it! I agree, that was a terrific scene in the book. It’s going to be fun finally seeing how a lot of scenes from the trilogy are interpreted on film.

I’m happy that you noticed that I put Ana in the Louboutins! I try my best to get all the details as close to the book descriptions as possible. πŸ™‚

Thank you for continuing to take peeks at my work! I hope to have something new to share soon!

As always great illustration! You know what, until FSoG I’d never tried ben wa balls and I used to curse the pot-holed, uneven roads in Devon, UK – not anymore! If you’ve spotted the lady driver with a big grin on her face – that’s me, hahaha! πŸ˜‰ x

    • admin

HAHAHHAHAHA! Catherine, you never disappoint with your comments. Oh, that made me laugh! πŸ˜€

I’m glad you enjoyed my latest offering, and thanks as always for checking it out!

Haha! Glad I made you laugh. Devon has more miles of roads than any other county in the UK (nearly 10,000 and mostly bumpy country lanes), so happily there is no chance the local council will ever keep up with the road repairs! ; x

        • admin

You would be the only person to ever plead with the local council to refrain from fixing the roads! They will be thoroughly puzzled. ;D

  13. Nancy M.

I was looking briefly at ALL your illustrations today. As Christian said to Ana, “you have bewitched me”. you are VERY passionate about your work. I was looking for the similarities in the faces and bodies, and you really know what you are doing. I hope you have some sort of career in illustration, because it definitely suits you.

    • admin

Thank you so much for your very, very kind words, Nancy! πŸ™‚ I do enjoy creating illustrations very much, so it’s nice to hear that my passion for it comes across. I’m striving to improve every day, so I’m glad the characters seem to have somewhat of a consistency! LOL! I don’t do illustration as a paid profession, but it has been somewhat of a dream of mine since I was just a tiny tyke. Thanks again! πŸ™‚

Thanks Tiffany! I’m glad you enjoyed both the illo and my babbling! πŸ˜‰ It put a big smile on my face to hear that it makes your day!
LOL! An animated version of Fifty would be a lot of fun to watch, wouldn’t it? I’m partial, because I love animation and I think the anime genre could really do the books justice. But I’m sure the movies will be amazing no matter who is cast and how closely it follows the books! πŸ™‚

hey, I’m from Brazil and I love your drawings. I could imagine the scenes much better with your drawings. I’d like to see something more detailed about the house, when they already have Ted. Please keep posting drawings, I really love it.

Hi Ana! *waves to you in Brazil* πŸ™‚ I’m so happy to hear that you are enjoying my illustrations! Thank you for your kind words. There are so many great moments from the books, that I hope to touch on as many as I can! πŸ™‚ I will most definitely be sharing more soon! Thanks again!

Thank you, Ang!e! I’m happy to hear that you liked the illustration πŸ™‚

I was hoping to have something new posted already, but unfortunately, real life got in the way. πŸ™ But, I have already begun a new piece! It’s a bit different than what I’ve done so far, and may take me a little longer than usual. If all goes well (fingers crossed) I hope to have it finished and share it with everyone very, very soon!

Thanks for continuing to stop by and visit! πŸ™‚

You should. You put those images in my head and now i became greedy about them ;p

          • admin

Hahahaha! That really made me laugh out loud! πŸ˜€

But I really will try to share more often. Maybe I’ll do some rougher sketches in between, since those don’t take days to finish like the full illustrations. πŸ™‚

I have spent, embarrassingly, a better part of today going through all your FSOG illustrations (in chronological order) in between tending to meals, chores and my kids. I have to say that all of your illustrations are wonderful, but this one truly has me blushing and fanning myself.

I had seen some of your work on instagram and have had your page up and waiting on my iphone for a couple of weeks now. I’ve read the books twice ( thrice?) and have seen the movie. My husband wanted to see the movie also, but, after seeing it with my friends a deciding that it left out some back-story details, I told him I’d rather he read the book first, so he really knew all the itty bitty details. He whole-heartedly and excitedly agreed, but wanted me to read it to him! The downside, however, has been that, as I read him a chapter or two at a time, I’ve been torn about starting another book, so I’ve been delving more into the world of Christian Grey. First, I read the E.L. James MOTU Christian Grey point of view snippets, and now, I’m having a great time reading through your thoughts. Thankfully, we finished the first book last night (he was very distraught about how it ended and wants me to read the other books to him) and we’re seeing the movie tomorrow. I’m sure he’d enjoy your illustrations also and I can’t wait to show him. Anyway, now I’m rambling and I just wanted to say, thanks and well done!

Hi Stephanie! Wow! I can’t thank you enough for taking the time to take a look at my site and all of the illos! I’m really happy to hear that you enjoyed them, and that you really enjoyed this particular piece. πŸ˜‰

That is so wonderful that your husband was interested in seeing the movie and even read the books first, on your recommendation. Even better that he insisted that you read it to him! What a great experience for both of you to enjoy πŸ™‚

Oh I don’t think it’s a bad thing that it’s a bit difficult for you to move on to another book yet. As long as you’re enjoying yourself, that’s all that matters! Not to mention the fact that your husband is enjoying it along with you! (I love that he’s anxious for Darker after that cliffhanger ending to book one!) πŸ˜‰

I hope you both had a wonderful time viewing the movie! I really appreciate you sharing the illos with him as well. I loved hearing how the books have become something fun for you both to enjoy! Thanks for stopping in and telling me about it! Thanks again! πŸ˜€
