Don’t want to spoil anything for anyone that hasn’t read the first book of the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy by E L James, so please don’t read any further if you haven’t finished the book. I know how much I hate it when I come across spoilers unexpectedly!
But if you have read the first book, then I’m sure this particular moment in time will ring a bell right away! Yes, it’s the infamous playroom…the “Red Room of Pain” or “RRoP” as Ana likes to call it. Mind you, it’s only one small section of the room focusing on the scene where Christian instructs Ana as to how he expects her to wait for him in that particular room at Escala. This illustration doesn’t show any of the various areas inside the playroom, if you know what I mean…maybe those areas will show up in future pieces.
Anyway, believe it or not, capturing a straightforward pose such as Ana’s in an illustration is not as simple as one would imagine. So reluctantly, I had to shoot photo reference of myself. Wow, did I feel silly! I’m glad nobody witnessed it, and I guarantee nobody will see those photos! Sure, it’s fine if you’re actually with someone and striking that pose while enjoying some fun, but it’s rather unglamorous and silly looking when you’re scrambling on the floor getting into that position before the timer goes off on your camera. There were some great outtakes.
In the book however, I’m sure Ana and Christian thoroughly enjoyed the view they had of each other in this scene…

Your art is excellent, please keep posting! I somehow imagined that she would have her legs a bit closer, but there is no final say on that!
Thank you so much, Alex! I’m very glad you enjoyed the site. Yes, I definitely plan to keep posting.
Ah, her legs in the playroom pose…well, in the book Christian tells her to keep widening them several times before being satisfied, so I went for it!

Your illustrations are amazing! They match match what I envision from the books perfectly! Love love love playroom procedure. Are you selling prints?
Hi Toni! Thank you!!! I’m glad you liked the illustrations. The fact that they match what you envision is a *huge* compliment! I’m glad we have the same idea in mind!
I haven’t really thought much about selling the illustrations since I started doing these pieces just for my own amusement.
But I will keep you posted if I ever make my illustrations available for sale.
